Blood Samples for Drug Driving

What evidence will be obtained from my blood sample?

Its important when dealing with this type of evidence that you seek immediate advice and assistance from one of our motoring law specialists.

The police will send your drug sample off to a Forensic Scientist - Toxicologist who will be asked to analyse the blood sample for the presence of drugs. The scientist will screen the sample for various types of drugs. If a drug is detected the scientist will confirm its concentration i.e. amount and describe the drugs pharmacological effects i.e. how the drug can affect the user and list the symptoms likely to be displayed by a person under the influence of the drug.

The scientist will also outline what if any affect the drug can have upon a person's ability to drive properly.

We have gained a lot of expertise from examining many toxicologist reports over the years together with our own panel of toxicologists we can identify quickly whether the concentration is indicative of recent usage or whether its simple evidence that the drug has been taken at some point in the past. We can also identify quickly whether the component part of the drug the psychoactive element i.e. the part which has the capability of affecting the person's ability to drive or whether it is simply the metabolite which doesn't have any psychoactive elements. We can also determine whether scientific studies have adequately demonstrated that the drug can affect the individuals ability to drive.
